Determination of the crosslink density of silica-filled styrene butadiene rubber compounds by different analytical methods

Abstract The crosslink density of rubber compounds has a great effect on the properties final product. For this reason, suitable characterization method is required to understand and optimize performance materials. Four different experimental techniques were used determine silica-filled styrene butadiene composites: equilibrium swelling experiments, stress–strain measurements using Mooney–Rivlin theory, freezing point depression temperature tests Temperature Scanning Stress Relaxation (TSSR) measurements. evaluation these shows that results obtained follow similar trend for all four methods. from Mooney-Rivlin TSSR correlate best. These two are least affected by presence fillers less time-consuming ones. Furthermore, they also show best correlation with mechanical studied compounds.
